Music Therapy at Kirkriggs School

I’ve been working with Spiral Creative Arts Therapies (https://www.spiralartstherapy.com) to run a music therapy service for the wonderful pupils at Kirkriggs Primary School. We hope you enjoy a glimpse into how music therapy is helping to support and develop the children’s musicality, communication, interaction, confidence, self-esteem, emotional wellbeing, mental health and overall learning and development.

Music Therapy at Hollybrook Academy

I’ve been working with Beatroute  Arts (https://www.beatroutearts.com/) to offer music therapy to the students at Hollybrook Academy.  Supporting the mental health and emotional wellbeing of our young people could not be more important, and music therapy offers a safe, creative space in which to communicate and explore.

Music Therapy with Minnie

Minnie came to music therapy when she was four years old.  She has autism spectrum disorder and, through music, has found new ways of expressing herself and communicating with others.  Here she is confidently singing and playing her favourite song.

When my daughter first went to see Laura she was having trouble communicating, especially with people she wasn’t familiar with, and she hadn’t long been diagnosed as being autistic. After just a couple of sessions we started to see a difference in her – and most importantly she loved Laura! Laura was brilliant with Minnie and it became a highlight of her week. Her communication (both verbally and non-verbally) improved greatly and we were both upset when the sessions came to an end! My daughter absolutely loves music, and I believe that Laura really helped her to develop this and it’s something she will have with her for life. I would 100% recommend Laura to anybody considering music therapy – you won’t be disappointed.”
